Pet Owners

The importance of pets in our lives is widely recognized and honored in our society. The 2017-18 AVMA Pet Ownership and Demographics Report found that over half of the households in the United States had at least one pet and 80% of those surveyed considered their pets to be members of their family. The importance of the Human-Animal Bond has also been highlighted in research. The presence of pets in our livess has been shown to have positive effects on both our mental and physical health. Animals can decrease anxiety, stress, and depression in children and adults. Increased physical activity related to pet ownership has also been shown to decrease obesity and improve heart health.

It is important to know that there are some risks associated with our pets as well. They can spread germs that can cause illness in people. You can learn more about  one of these risks here.
