Becoming a BuckeyeASP Partner Practice demonstrates your commitment to responsible antimicrobial use that will have long-term benefits for your patients and clients. The BuckeyeASP program will be promoted by the OSU-CVM as a quality indicator for Ohio veterinary practices, consistent with a high standard of care and a commitment to the health and well-being of your patients.
As a BuckeyeASP Partner Practice, the OSU-CVM Antimicrobial Stewardship Working Group (ASWG) will work with you and your staff to creat a customized Antimicrobial Stewardship Program for your practice which will include:
- A customized version of our established and effective Antimicrobial Stewardship Program modified to reflect the specific needs of your practice
- Antimicrobial Use Guidelines that reflect your hospital's antimicrobial use and prescribing practices and antimicrobial drug inventory
- Guidance and training on establishing passive and active surveillance programs monitoring:
- Antimicrobial Prescribing Practices
- Patient isolate antimicrobial susceptibility (from culture submissions)
- Hospital environment for contamination with potential nosocomial pathogens
- Complementary culture/susceptibility testing on collected environmental surveillance samples
- Consultations with OSU-CVM clinical pharmacists, clinical microbiologists, and veterinary epidemiologists providing expertise on:
- review of patient culture and sensitivity data and assistance with patient-specific antimicrobial treatment plans
- analysis of data generated through your surveillance programs
- performing antimicrobial resistance risk assessments for your practices
- evaluation of biosecurity and infection control in your practice
- analysis of your hospital's antimicrobial drug prescribing practices
- Access to expanded Partner Benefits on this website including, but not limited to:
- Client handouts and educational materials
- Staff training materials and continuing education opportunities
- Secrure online access to hospital data with the ability to compare your results with other regional de-identified practice data
